It's like
the surprise happy outcome of a deranged genetic experiment. Surreal
sarcastic poetry barging into the presence of serene angelic choirgirl
vocals while funky, skuzzy guitars mongrelise with hip hop and chemical
beats. Hillbilly slide guitars get it on with gypsy violins and dub
melodica. American white supremacists find themselves rapping over joyous
african gospel music while J Edgar Hoover guests on groovy punky dub.
It's like Interesting Dance Music. Only with Tunes! Pop Music. Only
without custard for brains! It's smart, loud, aggressive, moody, mellow,
bleak, beautiful, trippy and, above all, tuneful. It's deadly serious.

And kinda funny. Variety. It's the spice of life. It's like No-Rules Football, only, y'know, like, Music. Radium88 surf the interstices of the postmodern world, bending genres and raising an eyebrow archly at niche markets and passing fashions. They are
the lo-tek sound of tomorrow, the kitschmongers of doom. Call it SPACE
HOP, call it NEO-CLASSICAL
AMBIENT TECHNO-NOIR, call it WEIRDO-HIP-TRIP-POP,
call it RETRO-FUTURIST GENRE-SPLICE. For lyrics, new tracks (regularly updated), anecdotes and other clues to the mystery that is Radium88, not to mention a free listen to their new album, Metamorphosis, or nip over to SoundClick... |

| In the several years of their existence Radium88 have
played live all over the UK and toured in Spain,
Holland and Belgium . They've also had songs featured on a variety of CD compilations. Most recently, highly regarded ambient label em:t featured a track on their em:t003 compilation. Amid generally favourable reception, Future Music singled out radium's track “the loneliness of the long-distance space-traveller”, describing it as “something Eno would've been proud of”, and e i magazine called it “nearly 4 minutes of zero g drift and starshine”. Their music has been featured on tv programmes around the globe and featured on radio stations on every continent (apart from Antarctica). Oh, and thanks to Audio Independents for being nice enough to use us as part of thier show and to Radio Gets Wild, who gave us their "Supreme Artist Award" for 2004, which was jolly nice. For an up to date list of dates, check the gig guide at - SoundClick.com Radium88 have also remixed other people's work, most noteably Banco de Gaia, which can be heard HERE. Other significant collaborators include Heroes of Film (including the self referential and theremin inspired Sci-Fi Lounge) and artist Martin Pearson who has provided the original artwork for most of the album and ep covers. |
